Hosted in partnership with The Dance Complex, A Trike Called Funk’s “Juxtaposed Flows” is a mini-series of events designed to bring together members of the local street / club dance scene with those from the internationally rooted heritage dance scene to learn from & exchange with one another in a fun & interactive format. Each event features a different combination of instructors specializing in local and international dance forms as well as DJs specializing in the corresponding music genres.

The June edition at Starlight features Breaking paired with Martial Arts. From music to movement, Hip Hop and Breaking have always taken inspiration from the martial arts, from Kung Fu to Capoeira, and Breaking is going to make its debut in the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer. So, this year is a fitting time to celebrate this dance tradition and its connection to historical connection to martial arts, several of which have long been a part of the Olympics.

Accompanied by a guest DJ, participants will learn basic steps from Breaking and Martial Arts movement forms then have a chance to incorporate them into a friendly, freestyle dance battle whose winner will take home a prize. No worries if you don't want to take part in the battle - there's still plenty of movin' and groovin' to do and you'll get to cheer on those in the battle.
